The Seventh Hermetic Principle

The Principle of Gender: “Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles Gender; manifests on all planes.” – The Kybalion.

The Gender Principle embodies the truth that there is Gender manifested in everything – it is always present and active in all phases of phenomena, on every plane of life.

It applies not only in the physical plane but also in the mental and spiritual planes. Principle manifests as Sex on the physical plane. On energy and mental planes it takes higher forms, but the Principle is always the same. No creation, nor physical, neither mental or spiritual, is possible without this Principle.

The Principle of Gender always works in the direction of generation, regeneration and creation. At the base, everything and anything contains both Principles, one of them being predominant. Each masculine thing has a feminine element; every feminine thing also contains a masculine element. From the interaction of these two Principles, Feminine and Masculine, the physical, mental and spiritual generation and re-generation occur.
The word “Gender” derives from the Latin “genere” which means “to procreate; to generate; create; to produce”. Sex is just a manifestation of Gender on the plane of the physicality – the plan of organic life.

The Feminine Principle – the feminine energy is creative; it brings the idea into manifestation; it is diffuse; it extends in depth and breadth, flows, being emotional and formless.
The creative feminine Principle creates life, absorbs, transforms and heals. It overflows with love and serves itself.
The feminine Principle is Devotion, Receptive and Passiv.

The masculine Principle – The masculine energy is the impulse, the idea. It is oriented upwards like the phallus. It is combative, focused, dynamic, performant, competitive and destructive.
The masculine energy protects and holds the feminine energy, gives it a vessel, a frame, a structure and the security in which it can create and evolve.
The masculine Principle is Structure, Holding and Active.

And these pairs, also considered polarities, opposites, can continue on and on, because, as I said, anything, any idea, any concept, the mental or spiritual element, any action belongs to a principle. Or rather, is mirroring predominantly one of the two sides of the Gender Principle.
Somehow, the Principle of Polarity and Gender are working together, the Polarity being a state, and Gender a quality of the things.

The Male Principle seems to be the one that directs specific inherent energy to the Female Principle and therefore contributes to triggering and maintenance of creative processes. But it is the Feminine Principle that always does the productive, creative work – and this applies on all levels. And yet, each Principle is incapable of operational energy without the assistance of the other.

The Chinese Philosophy has the Yin and Yang Principle. There, it impossible to talk about one without referring to the opposite. Yin and Yang are linked together as parts of a whole. All things and beings emerge from Feminine, tending towards the masculine one. A tree rises from a small seed in the earth and grows, stretching its branches towards the sun, feeding on the earthly fluids and the heavenly light. Its leaves turn to light and the roots to darkness. After a while, when all its life is over. The mighty tree will fall, returning the energy and matter it borrowed from sun and earth.

“All being, it seemed, was built on opposites, on division. Man or woman, vagabond or citizen, lover or thinker — no breath could both be in and out, none could be man and wife, free and yet orderly, knowing the urge of life and the joy of intellect. Always the one paid for the other, though each was equally precious and essential.”
